Josephine T. Milligan

Josephine (Jo) Milligan (née McHugh) passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, 12 July 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of Edmund J. Milligan Jr.; loving mother of Joanne Bernier (Charles), Edmund III (Elizabeth), Katherine O’Brien (Vincent), David (Kelly), and Daniel (Judith); devoted grandmother of Charles, Brian, Matthew, Edmund, Kimberly, Mary, Jennifer, Meagan, Marissa, Aubrey, Gregory, Sean, and Erica; and dear sister of, the late: Gertrude Shaughnessy, Norine Jarrett, and John McHugh.  She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Named in honor of St. Joseph, she was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 19, 1930, the beloved daughter of the late John and Katherine (née Nickels) McHugh.  She grew up in West Philadelphia where she attended Most Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Girls in 1948.

When she was 15 years old she met her future husband Ed, and began a 72-year journey of complete devotion to her family and friends.  Her primary mission in life was providing a loving, caring, and nurturing environment for her husband, children and grandchildren.  She was without peer as a wife, mother, sister, friend, seamstress, poet, songwriter, cook, baker, and event organizer, and she lived for those moments when the family was together at the Jersey Shore, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, holidays and other special occasions.  She prepared the greatest Sunday roast beef dinners, a world-class potato salad, and the best Sloppy Joes ever.   She was a wonderful friend to all, the nicest person you would ever want to meet, and never uttered a cross word about anyone.

A staunch advocate of St. Anthony, Patron Saint of Lost Things, she made believers of us all in the power of positive thinking and never giving up.  She will be greatly missed by many but will continue on in our hearts as an inspiration forever.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection at Riderwood Village, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, on Saturday, July 22, at 11:00 am.  Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00.  Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1101 Main St, Darby, PA 19023.

Cicley A. Lindsey-Asomani (Age 42)

On Friday, June 30, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved mother of Nicole Lindsey, Marcus lindsey, Nathan Ghartey, Kwame Ghartey, grandmother of Xavier Hepner, Kari lindsey, Joebari Lindsey loving  daughter of Kim Kargbo;  sister of 5, aunt of 10. Also survived by many loving family members and friends.   Relatives and friends may call at  Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, 20901 (Valet Parking), Sunday, July 16, from 3 to 5 pm, Where Prayers will be held during the calling hours at 4 pm.  Interment Private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nicole J.Lindsey and Family. A repass will be held immediately following the services at 3814 Wildlife Lane, Burtonsville MD 20866.

Ronald A. Faminu

Ronald A. Faminu, was born on May 14, 1975 and passed away July 9, 2017.

Ronald was a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland at the time of passing.

Born on May 14, 1975 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Richard (deceased)  and Albertine Faminu of Nigeria and Antigua.  Ronald graduated from Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, Maryland and from the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Ronald A. Faminu on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Takoma Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church – 6951 Carrol Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912. Viewing and visitation begins at 10:00am and the funeral service commences at 11:00am.

MARGARET MARTT THURSTON (Age 99)

On Friday, July 7, 2017, of Gaithersburg, MD, formerly of Wheaton, MD. Beloved wife of the late Paul A. Thurston; mother of Robert E.  (Delabian), Jean M. (Cynthia), George M. (Sally) and the late William P. (Julian). Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many other loving family and friends. Service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 10 A.M. at Guild Chapel, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 (enter through gatehouse, 301 Odendhal Ave). JAMES JOSEPH McLESKEY III Age 77

Jim passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on June 22, 2017.  He was born in Vicksburg MS, received his bachelor’s degree from Rice University in 1961 and his PhD in physical chemistry from Duke University in 1965.  After briefly serving in the army as a captain, he began a thirty-eight year career working for the US Army at Redstone Arsenal, the Coating and Chemical Laboratory, the Army Mobility Equipment Research & Development Command, the Army Materiel Command and the Army Research Laboratory, primarily involved in research relating to warfighting equipment and systems.  He was a movie buff, an avid gardener who grew award-winning cantaloupes and a devoted father who served his community as president of the orchestra parents association and a girls’ soccer coach.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Weaver McLeskey, brother Frank McLeskey (Karma) and sister Kathy McLeskey (Richard Budell), daughters Mary Monahan (Brian), Dorothy Yeh (Edward), and Susan Kiefer (James), grandchildren Aileen Monahan, Erin Monahan, Claire Monahan, Kathleen Monahan, Connor Monahan, Timothy Yeh, Justine Yeh, Sarah Kiefer, and Mason Kiefer as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  A memorial service will be held on August 13, 2017 at 2PM in the Inter-faith Chapel, 3680 S. Leisure World Boulevard, Silver Spring MD 20906 with reception following.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in his name to the Georgetown University Brain Bank, a research center that studies memory disorders. AIDA MARKS (Age 81)

On Monday, July 3, 2017, of Washington, DC.  Beloved wife of  54 years to Ambassador Edward Marks, US Foreign Service (Ret.); daughter of the late Raffi & Gerselia Nercess of Tehran, Iran; sister of Vahe and Edwin Nercess, both residents of Florida.   Also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.  Aida grew up in Tehran and received her Baccalaureate from the Lycee Razi.  Meeting her future husband in Nairobi, Kenya, Aida became an active partner in a diplomatic career for almost four decades, in countries as far apart as Belgium, Sri Lanka, and Zambia. Upon returning permanently to Washington in the 1990s, after the Marks’ final assignment at the US Mission to the United Nations in New York, she became a Volunteer at the White House and a real estate agent with the Georgetown office of Long and Foster. She was an active member of her Soorp Khatch Church community. Interment on July 18, 2017 Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S Glendale Ave., Glendale, CA 91205. A memorial service will be held on August 20, 2017 at Soorp Khatch Armenian Apostolic Church, 4906 Flint Dr, Bethesda, MD 20816 where contributions may be made in lieu of flowers.

JOAN WELCH MURPHY (Age 81)

On Tuesday, July 4, 2017 of Rockville, MD. Beloved wife of the late Walter J. Murphy, Jr.; mother of Kevin (Mary), Christopher (Elspeth), Brendan (Gail) and Colin (Traci) Murphy; grandmother of Delia, Owen, Patrick, Ian, Keira, Mallory, Brian, and Finn; sister of Rosemary Fuller. Relatives and friends may call at Holy Cross Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD on Thursday, July 13 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. Born in Washington, DC, Joan graduated from Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Chevy Chase, DC and from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. She received her BA degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. In 1958, she married Walter and they began married life in Bethesda, MD and then moved to Rockville, MD, raising their four sons. Joan was an active member of Holy Cross parish and The Christ Child Society. She held a variety of jobs in medical offices and at the Georgetown Preparatory School library. She enjoyed golf and travel, and had many life-long friends. Joan loved to spend time with family and hosted many happy gatherings. All who knew her will miss her warm heart and gracious presence.

HELEN E. NUTT (Age 91)

Peacefully on June 26, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD. Helen was the beloved wife of the late James Nutt and loving mother of the late Randy Nutt. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Nancy Nutt; sister Ruth Ann Taylor and niece Lori Kopczyk. Helen was a lifelong member of the Christian Church – Disciples of Christ, and of the Aspen Hill Christian Church. Services private.
